About American School of Dance

ASD's Mission

The American School of Dance was founded on the belief that ALL human beings are free to dance, but more importantly, the belief that all human beings MUST dance. Unlike some more “serious” dance studios, we seek first to nurture a love of dance in our students, regardless of individual ability level. We don’t just focus on the dance steps – we focus on the person. We encourage each student to do her best and to be proud of herself and her accomplishments.

We find that our unique approach to dance instruction not only helps students to improve body awareness and build muscle tone, but also to strengthen self-confidence and develop and appreciate their expressive potential – all while learning the best in traditional jazz and hip hop dance technique AND having a great time!

We believe that individuals who develop the strength, balance and flexibility characteristic of dancers will have acquired the same skills essential for a healthy and happy life. We look forward to sharing our love of dance with you.

"End of Session" and Spring Shows

Each ASD After School session culminates in a performance. Throughout the session, dancers help to choose the show theme, pick out their costumes and design the sets. In just eight to ten weeks, students learn performance pieces in two different dance disciplines. Session awards are presented at the end of the show and an ice cream party follows. Parents, siblings and friends are encouraged to attend.

Each year in each ASD location culminates with a fantastic Broadway-like dance performance in which every student has an opportunity to perform a minimum of two routines. The annual Spring Show is the highlight of the year for the ASD K-12 program, allowing our students the opportunity to share their hard word and progress with family and friends while experiencing the thrill of performing. All of ASD's K-12 dancers are invited to participate (participation is optional).

Inspired by the nation's best dance performances and complete with sets, costumes and a big, enthusiastic crowd, the Spring Show integrates fresh, hip songs with an entertaining theme - it's fast-paced, fun and FAR from your typical dance recital! Our audiences have trouble staying in their seats - dancing in the aisles is encouraged!
