In addition to the daily dance schedule, campers can enjoy activities like swimming, biking, tennis, soccer & other organized sports on SMS’s outdoor playing field, arts & crafts, volleyball, a gondola ride to the top of Stratton Mountain, hiking the area’s beautiful network of trails, an easy, guide-led horseback ride at the Sun Bowl Ranch, kayaking or canoeing on one of the many nearby lakes, and a field trip to
to experience their trampolines, alpine slides, rock walls, water rides, mini golf and more*!
Organized evening activities may include team competitions (like American Dance Idol, Team Cheers, Dance Trivia or Flexibility/Strength/Leap Contests), a trip to the Stratton Athletic Center for trampoline- & dance-based games, roasting marshmallows around a campfire, an evening barbeque, and outside games like Suitcase Races and Capture the Flag. An optional field trip to the renowned Weston Playhouse to see a summer stock musical production or to Manchester to see a movie may also be offered. And, of course, don’t forget the big Friday night dance performance, when parents and siblings are invited to cheer on their dancers' progress.
Evening open activities include dance aerobics classes, arts & crafts, listening to music & socializing in the ADTC Canteen (which sells refreshments, candy and other snacks along with ADTC dancewear and accessories), working on dance steps with instructors, watching movies in SMS’s very own movie theater, emailing family & friends in SMS’s computer lab, or just hanging out in the dorms with friends.
At the start to each week, the ADTC staff helps campers get to know each other and to build camaraderie by organizing the girls into teams. The teams earn points by competing in friendly events and working together to complete various tasks throughout the week (photo safaris, scavenger hunts, dance competitions, art projects, etc.). Individuals also earn points for their teams (keeping dorm rooms clean, being on-time to dance classes and camp activities, etc.). More details will be explained at the first camp meeting on Sunday evening. At the end of each week, an awards ceremony is held to recognize each team for their efforts and to celebrate the winning team. Campers should come to camp ready to participate and have fun with their teams!
*Note: Participation in some day & evening activities may require a permission slip &/or additional fee. Participation in these activities will be optional. More details will be provided to confirmed campers.
