Our K-12 dance classes for kids and teenagers combine the best of jazz, funk and hip hop dance. This combination of dance styles and technique is proven not only to be an excellent form of exercise, but also to help children and teens develop confidence, poise, discipline and determination - while having a great time in the process!
This year, ASD's dance classes are held in three mid-Fairfield County locations: New Canaan, Westport and Wilton, CT - convenient to areas including Darien, Easton, Fairfield, Norwalk, Redding, Ridgefield, Rowayton, Southport, Stamford, and Weston - and even Pound Ridge and Lewisboro, NY!
Classes are grouped by grade-level and combine students across appropriate
grade ranges in levels we call Child (K-1st grade boys and girls), Youth (2nd-4th grade boys and girls), Junior (5th-7th grade girls) and Senior (8th-12th grade girls). Students register for the entire dance school year (late September - early May) in the location most convenient to them and then attend one, one-hour class each week in that location. Registration is on-going through early January, dependent upon space availability in each class.
Our dance instruction includes a comprehensive warm-up, across-the-floor work and fun & funky combinations that build upon skills learned throughout the year. Each class also will learn two performance routines (one in our Child classes) to perform in
ASD's Annual Spring Show
, a Broadway-inspired dance recital held in mid-May and complete with professional sets, costumes and a big, enthusiastic crowd (participation is optional). Younger classes also include interactive dance games each week.
ASD's choreography is some of the coolest around - we pride ourselves in our unique combination of the latest funk and hiphop moves with traditional jazz dance technique.
But most importantly, our focus is on FUN. Our goal is to encourage each student to do her best - no matter he ability level - and to be proud of herself and her accomplishments. We seek to send our dancers home with a smile on their faces - every time!
